Best Surf Session. Or, "Shoulda been here a couple of hours ago mate!"
With 16ft of swell forecast and south to south west winds it was clear which spots would offer the best offshore winds, it was just a matter of which spot to choose depending on tidal conditions. It was pretty busy until low tide in the early afternoon and then most people disappeared. With three of us left in, the swell lulled for a little while and then, as if by a flick of a switch, the planets aligned and the place turned on with some of the best lined up conditions I've had here. With some excellent and sizeable set waves coming in we were paddling further out and getting bigger and longer waves. For a couple of really consistent hours we had all the waves we wanted. Great Craic and a nice attitude in the water. As my arms could take no more, and the conditions started to degrade (though still very good), the crowds started to arrive. Knackered and with 12 people in the water, it was time to head off. A quick photo of a very average wave and I wished I had gotten out earlier to shoot some of the awesome conditions. But would you have? Today was one of those were the urge to surf took over and photography took a happy back seat.
